Din Tai Fung

I found out about Din Tai Fung while I was watching a Singapore travel vlog on Youtube. I found out the best seller of the restaurant is their Xiao Long Bao. We were planning to eat there once we go to Singapore although coincidentally, Din Tai Fung opened in the Philippines!


Since my group of friends love trying out new restaurants I immediately told them that we should try Din Tai Fung. Of course, as the restaurant is known internationally people were already flocking on the counter to reserve their seats once we got there. We went their early because we know that it’ll be full when dinner time comes. I like that their staff at the counter is very accommodating and each of them can speak at least two languages.

Once seated, we immediately started ordering. The waiters were really accommodating, so accommodating that they immediately took my plate even though I wasn’t finished yet. lol. but then I figured that there were a lot of customers that they needed tables immediately which was very efficient.

We ordered the Vegetarian Mushroom Wonton with House Special Spicy Sauce (Php 185), Chocolate Lava Xiao Long Bao (Php 115), Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk Bun (Php 85), Vegetarian Mushroom Noodle Soup (Php 245) , Shrimp and Pork Wonton Noddle Soup (Php 265), Pork Xiao Long Bao (Php 315 for 10 pcs.) and Pork Chop Fried Rice (Php 270).


We were pretty much disappointed with the Noodles since it tasted like. . .well, regular noodles. We should’ve ordered their fried rice. The Vegetarian Mushroom Wonton was okay. Their Xiao Long Bao was pretty much an interesting experience they showed us how to eat it. From how to mix the sauce to the way you eat it with a Chinese spoon.

After the Xiao Long Bao arrived the waiter started preparing the necessary items for the Xiao Long Bao experience. It was like they were welcoming an Emperor in China. lol. First he started with the sauce, he told us that our sauce mix was wrong. Because almost all of our soy sauce overpowered the vinegar which was wrong when eating a Xiao Long Bao. The waiter poured at least 3 part vinegar and 1 part soy sauce saying that it was the right amount of sauce for the Xiao Long Bao to taste good. He started dipping the sauce and placed it on the spoon and poked a small hole while adding a little ginger. Finally, It was ready to eat. The taste was okay, nothing pretty special. You can immediately taste the hint of meat and I think it really did taste good when you mix it with the sauce, but next time we will try the Crab Roe.

I ordered the Chocolate Lava Xiao Long Bao while my boyfriend ordered the Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk Bun. The Chocolate Lava Xiao Long Bao tasted like Hershey chocolates in a bun. It was sweet, mellow and chocolatey all wrapped up in a soft, chewy bun. While, the Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk Bun was delicious! You can see the egg yolk filling from the inside which makes you wonder what would it taste like, once it gets in your mouth it has a sweet, delectable taste. I wanted to order a second. I’m still drooling while thinking about it. I would definitely come back wait for the long queue just for this.

Overall, We had a satisfying experience at Din Tai Fung. Some of our orders were a little bit disappointing but we are definitely going back here for more of the Xiao Long Bao experience and try the other dishes. Since Chinese cuisines has a special place in our heart. Not to mention, We all know what to order at Singapore once we try it there as well.
